Straight Stair Lifts

A straight stair lift can be used if your stairs are suitable. The price of a straight stair lift is considerably lower than that of a curved stair lift. Also, the installation of a straight stair lift is the easiest of the two.

How do you know if your stairs are suitable for a straight stair lift?

A straight stair lift is fine if your stairs run in a straight line from top to bottom, with no turns, obstacles or no landing at any point on the stairway. Do not be under the misapprehension that a staircase with two straight runs is suitable for a straight stair lift: it isn't - you'll need either to install two straight stair lifts or a curved stair lift. If you have any doubts call in a fitter from a stair lift company to do an on site survey - these surveys are usally free with no obligation to buy; if the company doesn't offer this then best advice is to go to another company.

Another thing to consider about the installation of a straight stair lift is the overhang of the track at the top of the stairs; how much will depend on the make of the stair lift. Depending on the width of your landing, the track can create an obstruction. However, some stair lift companies now supply models where the track can be folded away at a touch of a button.

Installation of a straight stair lift is straightforward and can usually be done in a matter of hours. You can save money if you install the stair lift yourself as many manufacturers and suppliers will supply you with the stair lift only. However, if you're going to install it yourself, you really need to know what you're doing. The best advice is to always have the supplier install the stair lift. If the supplier fits the straight stair lift you also get a guarantee on workmanship.

Although a straight stair lift is quick to install and costs a lot less than a curved stair lift, you should make sure the company you buy the stair lift from provides excellent after sales service. Service is, without doubt, the most important part about buying a stair lift.
